Our members on the B platoon at Station 36 were dispatched to assist Lansdowne Fire Company at a 2 alarm apartment building fire on Lansdowne Ave. Our members responded on Squrt36 and when they arrived Firefighter Brian Ganley performed a size up of access points from the exterior of the building. While he was performing his duties, he heard a handicapped civilian screaming for help. The civilian was trapped on the 3rd floor of the apartment building near a fire stairwell. Firefighter Ganley reached the handicapped victim inside the smoke filled stairwell. Firefighter Ganley than called for Wayne Alexander, a medic from Mercy Fitzgerald 105, to come up and assist him with removing the victim down the stairwell to the exterior of the building.
This is the second time in as many months that Firefighter Brian Ganley has rescued victims from a fire.
The 2 alarm fire in Lansdowne was a handful for the first arriving companies. The first Engine on scene (Delaware County Station 24) arrived and did a great job holding the fire from spreading. All firefighters on scene did an outstanding job on a fire that could have been a major catastrophe.
