Daylight Savings this weekend

Every spring we move our clocks one hour ahead and "lose" an hour during the night and each fall we move our clocks back one hour and "gain" an extra hour.

The phrase "Spring forward, Fall back" helps people remember how Daylight Saving Time affects their clocks. This Sunday, at 2 a.m., on March 14th, we set our clocks forward one hour ahead of Standard Time ("Spring forward").  The change to Daylight Saving Time allows us to use less energy in lighting our homes by taking advantage of the longer and later daylight hours.

Local 2493 also encourages everyone to change the battery in their smoke detectors when they change their clocks, and ensure their smoke detector is clean, mounted correctly and in proper working order. For more information on when to replace a smoke detector and where to mount a smoke detector, please visit our "Safety Page" link on the left side of this webpage for recommendations.
